General Appearance: Smooth Fox Terrier-lively and active as well as powerful. Wire Fox Terrier-alert, quick, on the tip-toe of expectation.

Size, Proportion, and Substance: Height-not to exceed 15 1/2 inches at the withers; females slightly smaller than the male. Weight-males, about 18 lbs; females slightly less.

Background: Fox Terriers are busy, bouncy, alert, and always ready for action. He is a great dog for active children who can give him daily play and exercise. His terrier talents include digging and barking, which need to be directed to appropriate activities. Fox Terriers are smart and eager to please, so training is smooth sailing. Firm commands are all the Fox needs to get your message. The Smooth Fox needs very little grooming, while the wire should be clipped every 4 months.
