General Appearance: The Bernese is strikingly aristocratic with a strong build and proud stance, deep chested with a level topline. Coat is thick, moderately long and can be slightly wavy or straight in an illustrious tricolor pattern.

Size, Proportion, and Substance: Males stand 25 to 27 1/2 inches, females 23 to 26 inches at the withers. Weight ranges from 75 to 120 pounds.

Background: The Bernese Mountain Dog was originally developed as a strong and hard working farm dog with many duties - from driving cattle to pulling heavy carts. The breed is best known today as a beloved companion animal and they make a loyal and extremely devoted children's pet. The Bernese is independent yet affectionate with his people, frequently aloof with strangers. This breed is active and enjoys nothing more than exploring the great outdoors with their family.
